Gutter clearing is one of those jobs nobody thinks about until there is a stain on the bedroom wall. On a north London terrace, with mature trees behind and neighbours either side, gutters fill faster than people expect, and a blocked one does its damage quietly over a winter.
We clear the gutter out properly, check the downpipes actually run, and take out the vegetation that has worked its way into the roofline. Everything that comes down gets cleared up rather than left in your beds.

Why we ended up doing this
We were already up at roof level clearing ivy off parapets and cutting growth back from the top of walls, and customers kept asking whether we would do the gutters while we were there. Enough people asked that it became a service.

Why does it matter if the gutters are blocked?
Water that cannot get down the pipe goes over the edge instead, and runs down the wall. Over a winter that shows up inside as damp on the top of a wall or around a bay. Clearing the gutter is a great deal cheaper than fixing what the water did.
What about ivy and growth in the roofline?
That is a lot of what we take out. Ivy gets behind fascias, lifts tiles and fills gutters with leaf litter every autumn. We cut it back out of the roofline and take it away.
Do you clear the downpipes as well?
Yes. There is no point emptying a gutter that still drains into a blocked pipe, so the downpipes get checked and cleared as part of the job.
How often should gutters be done?
It depends entirely on what is growing near the house. A terrace with a big tree over the back will fill every autumn. Somewhere more open might go a couple of years. If you tell us what is around the building we will give you an honest answer.
Can you do it at the same time as the garden?
Yes, and that is usually the sensible way to do it, because the debris comes down into the garden and we are already there to clear it.
